Um, your week starts on Sunday, not Monday

People often ask me for tips on managing time. The secret is I focus on what matters most to my family and me. From there, it’s easy to discern how to invest my time and effort.

(Below is an email I sent my blog subscribers on March 19, 2017. Not a subscriber? Let’s fix that. Simply visit ralphbarsi.com enter your email address and first name beneath “Subscribe to the Blog!” in the right-hand column.)

Start your work week on Sunday. Get ahead of the game. Wake up Monday morning expecting a great week vs. hoping for one. This comes from planning.

Every Sunday, my team of leaders receives a weekly update from me. I highlight where we are against our targets, recap key meetings from last week, or remind us all to anticipate what’s coming down the pike.

  • If you run a team, how good are you at frequently, consistently, and formally updating your team?
  • If you’re on a team and have no direct reports, how good are you at frequently, consistently, and formally updating your boss about the week ahead?
  • Do you then reconcile at the end of each week how well you did what you said you’d do?

My son’s high school baseball team played a tournament this weekend in Orange County. I was working in San Diego, so drove to meet my son on the tourney’s last day.

We headed to the airport. Before our flight, we grabbed lunch and watched hoops. He caught up on homework and I caught up on work work, yet we still had quality time together.

Ralph, me, and my laptop waiting for our flight.

In other news…

I emailed my blog subscribers a survey, asking what topic to present on at April’s TOPO Summit. Feedback from the survey resulted in Write Well, Speak Well, and Go from X to Y.

The runner-up was How to Attract A-Players to Your Organization. Both solid choices but I’ll present on the first one.

I’m amazed how poorly salespeople write. I’m not amazed that those same salespeople wonder why they can’t hit quota, get help from available resources, or move up in their career.

My TOPO Summit talk will help people make simple tweaks to their writing, and ultimately turn things around.

On March 29, 2017 I’m joining a panel of great sales leaders. We’re discussing leadership vs. management, one of my favorite topics. Join us if you’re in the Bay Area that evening. You can register here.

My good friend Sean Sheppard will moderate the discussion.

Not only will I share insights but I’ll get to learn more. Matt, Katherine, Nicolette, and Sean are among the best in the Bay Area and our industry.

I’ll come correct and talk about how my servant leadership approach continues to work. I talked about it several years ago at Dreamforce and more recently on #RealSalesTalk.
